Arie’s Testimony: I was blessed to grow up in a strong Christian home where the gospel was present every single day. At the same time my family was heavily involved in a gospel believing church with strong teaching. This is how God began to open my eyes and my heart to him from the day I was born. My parents were faithful parents to me and fulfilled their role well by bringing the gospel home from church every week. My parents every night would read me a bible story and pray with me. There wasn’t a day that went by where I didn’t see my dad open his bible before work. God used all of these things to open my heart to the truths of the gospel, and what the Christian life looked like.

I gave my life to Christ back when I was in third or fourth grade. I went to a Christian school all the way through fourth grade. I remember one day during our bible class, we were given a lesson on the price and weight of sin, how Jesus came to save us, and offer us eternal life. I remember going to the playground after this lesson during recess to ask Jesus to come into my heart, so that I would be saved. Obviously from then on my life didn’t immediately change. But from that point on, God began to shape my heart and change my desires for his glory.

One of the ways I was able to see God moving in my life was a day back in my Junior year of High School. I remember coming home from school one day to see my family on the couch with shocked faces. My Dad looked at me and said, “I just got diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s lymphoma”. I had every reason to be freaking out, and breaking down, but I felt no fear in that moment. I felt so much peace, and I knew that even if my dad died, it wouldn’t be the last time I see him, and my only response was “let’s beat this”. The peace I felt in that moment very clearly wasn’t a peace of my own, it was the Holy Spirit moving in me. Another instance of seeing God move in my heart was seeing some of my desires change as I grew up. The most obvious instance was seeing in High School, how I never desired the party life. I have always struggled with being a people pleaser, and if it weren’t for God shaping my desires, I would have easily chosen to party, and do anything to gain their approval.

God has especially grown my heart for him over the last two and a half years in college. Using Campus Outreach, God has provided me with a community of believers, and leaders to guide and teach me. I have since gained the discipline of having daily devotion with God, and have been able to form other disciplines as God has grown my love and obedience to him.
